A good brochure brief explains who the brochure is for, what it needs to do, what content you already have, and your timeline. Keep it simple, clear, and focused on the outcome.
Writing a decent brochure brief doesn’t need to be complicated – but it does need to be clear. A good brief helps your designer understand the job, avoid endless revisions, and deliver something that actually works.
We’ve put together a one-page template we use with our own clients – and you can download it for free below.

What Makes a Good Brochure Brief?
A strong brief saves time, money, and confusion. It doesn’t need to be formal or full of marketing jargon. It just needs to explain what you’re trying to do.
Here are the key things it should cover:
- Who the brochure is for
Who’s going to read it? Buyers? Investors? Tenants? Schools? Knowing the audience helps shape the tone and layout. - What it needs to do
Is the goal to inform? Impress? Sell something? Get more enquiries? - What content you already have
Copy, images, floorplans, pricing tables – whatever you’ve got, make a list. - What you like (and what you don’t)
Seen a style you love? Or hate? That helps a lot. Designers don’t mind being led. - Budget and deadline
We’re not precious – but we do need to know what we’re working with. - Format, size and print
Is it A4, square, fold-out? Is it going to print or staying digital? We’ll guide you if you’re unsure.

Why the Brief Matters More Than the Budget
Brochure projects rarely fall apart because of the cost. They fall apart because nobody knew what was expected.
A clear brief gives your designer the right info, in the right order, at the right time. And that means better design, faster.
Start with the brief. Everything else flows from there.
